About Hannah Center
A Place for Recovery and Hope
Since 1993, Hannah Center has been a place of hope, born from hearts that recognized women in crisis needed more than shelter—they needed a pathway to transformation. Named after biblical Hannah, who found strength through struggle, we opened our doors offering compassionate support for women facing homelessness, domestic violence, unplanned pregnancies, and trauma recovery.
Core Values
We support human life in all its forms.
We offer a home environment that is welcoming and non-judgmental to all who enter.
We commit to assisting in positive life changes. We embrace holistic care of a woman, taking into consideration her physical, emotional, social, familial and spiritual needs.
Philosophy
The philosophy of Hannah Center rests on the belief that all life is sacred. The Center is a home dedicated to meeting the needs of a woman facing a life crisis. Our moral commitment is to the women who come to stay with us.
Our voluntary group home atmosphere is conducive to and advocates personal growth. We lead a structured, yet loving home life. Life skills are acquired as residents participate in the day-to-day running of the home.
Because we are a pro-life organization that believes in the sanctity of life, Hannah Center does not support abortions or make referrals for contraceptives.
Our History
-
1993
Early Years and Founding
Hannah Center opened in Marshfield in June 1993, named after biblical Hannah, who triumphed over struggles. Founded by compassionate community members, it provided a safe refuge and support for pregnant women in crisis who had no home or support system. The founders believed the community and faith-based organizations should support this mission.

1993 - 2023
Growth and Sustained Mission
Over over 30+ years, Hannah Center has assisted women in life crises through compassion and guidance in a nurturing environment. The core principles have consistently involved providing a safe place where women can recover and gain independence through life skills classes, support, advocacy, pro-life programs, and spiritual guidance. The focus expanded beyond pregnant women to include single women in crisis and mothers with children.
-
2018 - 2024
Expansion to Wisconsin Rapids
In 2018, compassionate Wisconsin Rapids community members recognized the urgent need for women's shelter. After years of faithful fundraising and prayerful planning, Hannah Center acquired a building in 2023. Following community-supported renovation, this beacon of hope opened June 17, 2024, creating new opportunities for transformation and healing.

Hannah's Caring Closet extends our heart beyond our doors, blessing both residents and community families facing challenging times. Through generous donations from caring friends, we provide essential baby and children's items—clothing (sizes 0-6T), diapers, wipes, bottles, breast pumps, cribs, car seats, formula, and more—to any family needing support. This beautiful ministry transforms donated gifts into hope, ensuring every child in our community has what they need to thrive.
